The Trump administration’s April 6 targeted missile strike on the Syrian airbase from which the chemical attack was launched, is not a reflection of any genuine concern for the Syrian people. It will not help the struggle against the Assad regime, ISIS and Al Qaida. Instead, this administration’s latest airstrikes are motivated by other aims.

Open Letter from Iranian Political Prisoner, Arash Sadeghi
Arash Sadeghi started his hunger strike on October 24, 2016 after his wife, Golrokh Ebrahimi-Iraei was sentenced to six years in prison for writing an unpublished story about the barbaric practice of stoning women. He ended his hunger strike on January 3, 2017 after Golrokh was given a prison furlough. In this open letter to his supporters he states: “the issue is not only my wife Golrokh Iraei as an individual and as my wife. She is the symbol of all the girls, women and even men in this country whose basic human rights are being violated and have become innocent victims.”

Election of Donald Trump Marks Regression to Authoritarianism
Although Trump’s message has been against “big government,” in fact his economic plan which mainly consists of tax cuts for large companies and massive spending cuts in the public sector, does not contradict the rule of a strong state/army. His authoritarianism might be similar to what we have seen in emerging economies such as Russia and China during the past 25 years.
